REASON FOR SOLUTION:
This project has been undertaken in search for a relatively easy and inexpensive way to pump water.
In South Africa there are many locations where this type of “old” technology can, and should, be used where practical. However, due to the common availability of commercial electricity almost everywhere we don’t see a use for the slow methodical application over the fast electric pumps. This is not the case in much of the developing world where in many cases families must hand carry water from a community well or river for all of their basic needs. Most of the time, it’s the women that do all of this carrying and at nearly 1kg per liter that’s a limiting factor in what a family can produce, as each person needs a minimum of 40lts of water a day.
